T-Mobile shakes up UK management

The mobile phone operator T-Mobile yesterday unveiled a shake-up of its management team in the UK that will see it part company with its UK chief executive, Harris Jones.

The mobile phone operator T-Mobile yesterday unveiled a shake-up of its management team in the UK that will see it part company with its UK chief executive, Harris Jones.

T-Mobile, formerly known as One2One in the UK, said Mr Jones would step down from his role in the summer. Clent Richardson, head of sales and marketing in the UK, is to leave at the end of next month.

Mr Jones is being replaced by Brian McBride, formerly vice-president of northern Europe for Dell Computers, who steps up to the position of managing director in July and will also assume responsibility for sales and marketing.

The management shake-up comes just two months after Rene Obermann was named head of T-Mobile International, owned by Deutsche Telekom.

Separately, the rival mobile phone operator 3 has confirmed it will launch its third-generation service in the UK on 3 March but said customers would not be able to get their hands on the phones until the middle of March.

Customers will be able to place orders for the new handsets on the internet from 22 February and in its three shops in London and Birmingham from early March. The phones will cost from £399 to £449.
