Richard Handler, the head of the investment bank Jefferies, has raked in more in annual pay for 2012 than his opposite numbers at some of Wall Street's bigger and better-known firms.
Jefferies paid Mr Handler $19m (£12m) for the 2012 fiscal year, according to a regulatory filing. That puts him ahead of JP Morgan's Jamie Dimon, whose paycheck was cut to $11.5m owing to the "London Whale" trading loss.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Morgan Stanley's chief executive, James Gorman, was likely to receive less than the $10.5m he earned in 2011.
