Off-licences may merge

There was renewed speculation yesterday that the 960-strong chain of Victoria Wine off-licences, owned by Allied-Lyons, will merge with the 583 Augustus Barnett outlets owned by Bass. Analysts say the merged off-licences would be worth pounds 115m.
