Shares in Misys, the software company that is expanding in the US healthcare market, rose 10 per cent after it agreed to an alliance with America's Healtheon Corp to help connect doctors to the internet. At the same time, Healtheon and WebMD are merging to create a $5.5bn internet firm, the largest serving the medical industry.
Misys, whose Medic Computer Systems unit provides its software to about 65,000 US physicians, will connect those doctors to Healtheon in return for a stake in the new venture.
Medic will get a share of revenue generated by transactions and services provided by the Healtheon service and will receive share warrants in Healtheon over a period of four years.
