GERSON RIDDY is leaving CIBC Financial Products to become managing director and head of Global Quantitative Analytics at Barclays Capital. Roughly translated, that means he will be pricing and trading "exotic" derivatives, making him what Americans call a "quant jock".

At Oxford, Mr Riddy won a "half blue" at cycling and took a first-class honours in Physics.
