CHARTERAIL, the road-rail distribution company under threat of liquidation as a result of its deadlocked negotiations with British Rail, has turned to Brussels for support to enable it to resume trading.
Charterail has formally complained to the EC that BR has broken competition rules by charging unfair rates for rail haulage.
When Charterail, which counts Safeway, Tate & Lyle, Coca-Cola and Argos among its customers, was first set up, BR quoted the company a schedule of prices. But, Charterail says, the rates actually charged, were 'considerably in excess' of the quotation.
