The supermarket giant Safeway, which is undergoing a radical
restructuring, is "on track" to achieve its plan of increasing sales from pounds 12.86 per square foot to pounds 15 per square foot over the next three years, according to Argyll's chairman Sir Alistair Grant. He told shareholders attending yesterday's annual general meeting that the 5.5 per cent increase in sales over the first 14 weeks of the current year was "the best possible start" to achieving the target.
