Sainsbury's talks

SAINSBURY'S is rumoured to have held talks with Royal Ahold, the Dutch supermarket group, about a pounds 20bn global alliance. Sainsbury's began talking to Royal Ahold after the Dutch company's pounds 1.8bn buy of Giant Food, the US supermarket group in which Sainsbury's held a minority stake, earlier this summer.
