Saudi Arabia will spend dollars 1.6bn in the next four years to expand its telephone network. The project, to be launched this year, will boost the kingdom's telephone network by 500,000 lines to 1.8 million in 1997. The government is inviting bids worldwide and expects strong competition for the project.
