'Scotsman' bids to be scrutinised
Executives of the Thomson Corporation will meet today to examine bids for the Scotsman newspaper and Thomson's other Scottish titles, which were put on the market in July.
Six companies were understood to have lodged bids by last night's deadline. Among them are Caledonian Publishing, owners of the Glasgow Herald, Northcliffe Newspapers, which publishes 48 regional newspapers in England and Wales, a consortium of Conservative business leaders, and DC Thomson, publishers of the Dundee Courier and Sunday Post newspapers.
