Publications of punishments meted out by the Securities and Futures Authority can be a more potent weapon that the reprimand itself, said Rosalind Wright, general counsel and director of policy at the SFA. She said firms often said that they would rather pay a fine of almost any size if they could avoid adverse publicity.
