WEIR GROUP, the Glasgow-based engineers, have won a contract worth nearly pounds 60m from Marconi for the design and manufacture of the weapons handling system for three new Astute Class nuclear-powered hunter-killer submarines to be built at Barrow for the Royal Navy. It is the largest order won by Weir in the past ten years.
