THE FTSE 100 continued its march upwards, setting a new two-and- a-half year high, with Xstrata taking centre stage after the miner raised its bid for its Australian rival WMC to $6.5bn. The blue-chip gauge closed up 10 points at 4,916.2 - just below a session peak of 4,918.8.
