A British ferry carrying 172 passengers and 73 crew ran aground last night on the French coast outside Calais Harbour.

The Stena Challenger became beached during gale-force winds on its Channel crossing from Dover. No injuries were reported and rescue services said no evacuation was planned before attempts were made to refloat the vessel using tugs.
