The Ukranian-born pianist Shura Cherkassky has died in London, aged 84. Born in Odessa, Cherkassky fled with his family to the United States in 1922 during revolutionary violence, and became an established interpreter of great romantic pieces, by Chopin, Liszt and Schumann.
