Sarah Cook, the 13-year-old schoolgirl who went through with a marriage ceremony to a Turkish waiter she met on holiday, gave birth to a baby last night.
In a statement, Essex Social Services announced that the teenager had had a baby boy at 6.15pm. "She and her baby are both in good health and she was able to speak to her baby's father, Musanin Komeagae, after the birth. There are no immediate plans for Musanin to visit her," a spokesman said.
The wedding ceremony, which was not legally valid, took place with the girls' parents consent last year.
