THE METEOROLOGICAL Office is to close five of its regional centres in a cost-cutting exercise worth up to pounds 5m a year, it was confirmed yesterday.
Staff at centres in Newcastle, Leeds, Norwich, Bristol and Southampton are to be redeployed within the remaining seven centres or other parts of the organisation over the next two years, a spokesman said.
