THE NUMBER of cold-related deaths in Poland since mid-October has reached 99.
The latest victim was a man of 45 in Karchow village, west Poland. Most victims were middle-aged men who had been drinking, police said. Temperatures fell as low as 0C (32 F) at night in late October and winter weather, with snow and sub-zero temperatures, arrived in mid-November. Last winter a record 225 cold-related deaths were reported.
