HEAVY SNOWFALL, avalanches and flooding earlier this year caused damage totalling 800m Swiss francs (pounds 331m) in Switzerland's worst winter in decades, authorities said yesterday.
Many areas were cut off and 33 people killed in hundreds of snowslides throughout the country. The avalanches accounted for almost a third of the total damage. The rest was attributed to flooding.
