HURRICANE LENNY, the eighth hurricane of the Atlantic storm season this year, continued to bear down on the Caribbean last night with Haiti and the Dominican Republic the likely targets.

Lenny's winds continued to strengthen to 100mph (160kph) as forecasters ordered hurricane warnings to remain in effect for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Both were expecting heavy rain and possible flooding.
