An airfield worker was injured yesterday as he rescued a couple from a blazing helicopter which had crashed into a hangar.
Firefighters who attended the crash scene at Gamston airfield, near Retford, Nottinghamshire, praised the rescuer's "brave and determined action", and said it probably saved the lives of the man and woman pulled from the wreckage. The woman, who also suffered back injuries, was later said to be in a stable condition in hospital. The man was transferred to a specialist burns unit where his condition was said to be serious. The rescuer was treated for minor injuries. An air accident investigation is under way.
