An article in the summer issue of the Independent student special newspaper suggested that Manchester University was offering an MA in novel-writing which was 'the first of its kind'. We accept that Lancaster University has been running an MA in creative writing since 1983, and has since added a PhD, with a BA course starting this autumn.
