Your report on maximum scores in teaching quality assessment visits to subjects in new universities may need updating ("Old vs new: the battle for points in the ratings system", 5 March) American studies at the University of Central Lancashire was graded 24 out of 24 during a recent visit, a result which, by the way, included a top grade of 4 for every single teaching observation. My colleagues and our students were delighted with this result.
