I have just read your article concerning bad language and children. ("The Language Barrier", Education+, 17 April)

My 12-year-old son is now an occasional Independent reader. What I find difficult to explain to him is why quality papers such as your own print the "f" word in full, with increasing frequency, while the tabloid papers show more restraint in the matter.
