OU graduates often say that their studies opened their eyes to new horizons. For a few, this took on a literal meaning last year when two tutors of Development Studies organised a visit to the Indian state of Kerala. Now, the OU Development Society - formed by a group of students - is planning two more trips; a return to Kerala and a visit to development projects in Zimbabwe. The aim is to give students an opportunity to see something of life in the Third World and understand how development affects traditional lifestyles.
Contacts from the first Indian visit have started to show some unexpected results: arrangements are now under way to support training of psychiatric nurses in Bangalore.
OU students or graduates interested in going on one of these visits (Zimbabwe in July ; Kerala in November 1999) can e-mail Alhod@openlink.org for more information.
