Advisory Centre for Education (ACE): Telephone advice service for parents, with a bi-monthly bulletin on educational issues. 1B Aberdeen Studios, 22-24 Highbury Grove, London N5 2DQ.

Alliance of Parents and Schools(APS): Breakaway organisation for home- school associations in response to NCPTA rows, which claims 1,600 schools in membership. It offers PTAs insurance but refers those wishing to campaign to other groups. 91 Saffron Close, Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire 5NU 7JD.

Campaign for State Education (Case): Individual membership organisation which believes that parents are not being listened to, and wants a more structured approach. Publishes Giving Parents a Voice: Parental Involvement in Education Policy Making. 158 Durham Road, London SW20.

Fight Against Cuts in Education (Face): Campaigning group of parents and teachers which sprang up in response to cuts in education budgets over the last four years. Strong in the shire counties, but accused of leftist leanings in London. Contact: Bob Jelley (01203 311013).

National Confederation of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA): Largest organisation for home-school groups, with 11,000 member schools, although few take an active part in elections or regional federations.
