Madam: I was interested to hear John Major describe himself as "the schoolboy's friend" in a recent debate. I attended a meeting of parents and governors this week, where options to cut costs included selling the school minibus, reducing the curriculum to the bare minimum and increasing classes to sizes where they could barely fit into classrooms. This surely begs the question: With friends like Mr Major, who needs enemies?
Yours faithfully
