The University of the Highlands and Islands Millennium Institute is an amazing achievement. The Highlanders are among the most educationally ambitious people in the UK, but, until recently, they had to leave home for a higher education. Those who missed out at the age of 18 were stuck. Now, they can sign up at their local college, a partner of UHI, for a degree in Gaelic language and culture, marine science or golf management. Women, especially, are benefiting from the new establishment. We expect the UHI to really take off when it becomes a fully fledged university.
