Elliot Page and Emma Portner are divorcing after three years of marriage.

According to TMZ, Page filed documents in Manhattan on Tuesday, seeking the dissolution of the pair’s marriage.

The Independent has contacted representatives for Page and Portner for comment.

The couple told The Associated Press in a statement: “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer. We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”

Back in January 2018, Page announced the marriage in an Instagram post, writing of Portner: “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife.”

Page posted an accompanying photo of his and Portner’s hands, both wearing wedding rings.

Portner is a Canadian dancer and choreographer. Page earned an Academy Award nomination for his lead performance in the 2008 film Juno, and has played Vanya Hargreeves in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy since 2019.

In December last year, Portner shared a message of love and support after Page publicly came out as transgender.

“I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world,” Portner wrote at the time.

“I also ask for patience and privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
