Video shows man confront 'drunk' South African police officer after he 'tried to run his son off the road'

The police are now investigating the video after it received 300,000 views in 24 hours

A policeman in South Africa is being investigated today after a video went viral allegedly showing him driving while drunk.

The video was posted on the Facebook page of motorist Phil Tomlinson on Thursday and shows the KwaZulu-based Tomlinson approach the Pinetown police constable and accuse him of being “drunk” and trying to “run his son off the road” on a highway just outside of Durban.

The unnamed officer is filmed sitting in his car with a cigarette in his hand as Tomlinson says: “The reason why you stopped you, is because you got your gun on your lap and you're drunk, you're pissed, give me your card.”

Tomlinson then says, “You're gonna be reported my man. You nearly killed me!” as the officer reverses away.

Since being posted onto his Tomlinson’s page yesterday, the video has gone viral, with over 330,000 views in just over 24 hours.

Its popularity has caught the attention of the KwaZulu-Natal police force that is now looking into the officer’s behaviour.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker, said that the police were aware of the video and they would be investigating the matter in due course.
