Floods threaten Swiss towns

FIRE CREWS and civilian workers have been pumping out basements and filling sandbags in towns across eastern Switzerland after severe flooding. Yesterday the Rhine was falling slightly from its highest level since 1881. In Basle on Thursday it had reached 8.75 metres (28 feet).
