The governor of Parkhurst Prison at the time three dangerous life prisoners escaped is taking a case for constructive dismissal against the Home Office to an industrial tribunal.

The tribunal could hear evidence from Home Secretary Michael Howard, former Prison Service chief Derek Lewis and others involved in John Marriott's removal from Parkhurst after the escape last year. The lifers were recaptured five days later after a security operation costing pounds 750,000. The affair also triggered Mr Lewis's controversial removal from his job and the downgrading of Parkhurst from its top security status, with the loss of 150 jobs.
