Brooklyn fire: Two children trapped in building consumed by three-alarm blaze

Update: Eight people have been injured in a Brooklyn fire on Wednesday. Five firefighters and three civilians were hurt, all with minor injuries.

Police and firefighters are on the scene of a three-alarm fire in Crown Heights,Brooklyn. Three three-story buildings are involved in the fire at St. Marks Avenue which broke out around 11:06 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The blaze quickly grew to three alarms, meaning 33 units and 138 firefighters are trained to respond. While there were no reports of injuries, two children were said to be trapped inside one of the buildings. Firefighters were seen dodging burning debris as the exterior of the building began to collapse.

The blaze comes three weeks after the East Village gas explosion and seven-alarm fire that claimed two lives and destroyed four buildings at 121 Second Ave.

A spokesman for the Fire Department City of New York said the fire started in a third-floor apartment but the cause of fire was unknown at press time.
