PRESIDENT BILL Clinton has urged the House of Representatives to endorse new gun controls so that the measures can become law before the end of the school year.

With the Memorial Day holiday next weekend, this means in effect by the end of this week. Citing recent school shootings, Mr Clinton appealed in his weekly radio address for the House to act immediately. "I hope the House ... will pass every one of these common sense efforts that the Senate has passed to protect our children from guns," he said.
