Hague in favour of gay marriage

One of the contenders for the Conservative leadership has publicly endorsed same-sex marriages - with just two days to go before the first round of voting in the contest is due to take place.

Asked for his view on gay marriages, William Hague replied: "When they're not causing any harm to other people, why should we object?" Mr Hague's comments, which will please the party's liberal wing and some libertarians, could alienate more traditionalist Conservative MPs.
