Two patients have reportedly died overnight at the same hospital after they both tested positive for Covid-19.

Both patients were being treated at Milton Keynes University Hospital, north west of London, and are believed to have been in their 90s.

Both apparently had underlying health conditions.

The patients were both admitted with symptoms of the disease and were immediately placed in isolation, The Mirror reports.

It means the number of deaths in Milton Keynes is now three. Though the two latest deaths are not included in current government figures, an update is expected later today.

According to the latest official figures 71 people who tested positive for the disease have died in England, two in Wales and two in Scotland.

Just 1,950 cases have been confirmed in the UK, but the government’s top scientific adviser said the virus may have already infected 55,000 people in the country.

The real figure is unknown since testing was limited last week to patients already in hospital.

Other new cases include a baby who is among three people diagnosed at the James Padget University Hospital in Norfolk.

They are being treated in isolation, and an extensive tracing exercise is underway to track who they have had contact with.

The coronavirus pandemic has now killed more than 7,900 people around the world.

More than 81,000 people have recovered so far, mostly in China.

The Independent has contacted Milton Keynes University Hospital for comment.
