`Immigrant' dropped

The Government announced last night that the word "immigrant" is to be removed from the Asylum and Immigration Bill as a legal term to refer to people subject to immigration control.

Home Office Minister of State Baroness Blatch told the Lords that the decision had been taken in response to concern that the description might be taken in a pejorative sense and could cause anxieties among minority communities.
