Port-au-Prince - For the first time, President Jean-Bertrand Aristide celebrated the anniversary of his 1991 inauguration in his own country. The only military uniforms in sight were those of United States soldiers providing security.

"Democracy for us Haitians is gold," Mr Aristide said.
