A pensioner was crushed to death under the wheels of her husband's car yesterday as they were about to set off for their golden wedding anniversary celebrations.

Jean Cox, 74, was run over by her husband, William, also in his 70s, as he reversed his automatic car out of their garage in Rottingdean, East Sussex. Police said the vehicle suddenly lurched backwards knocking Mrs Cox down and pinning her underneath.
