ESTHER OXFORD, 24, has been named Young Journalist of the Year in the British Press Awards. She has been with the Independent for 19 months and won for articles on Chicago girl street gangs and the experiences of pregnant Bangladeshi women in a London hospital.

Feature Writer of the Year was Fiammetta Rocco of the Independent on Sunday. That paper was highly commended in the Exclusive of the Year category.
