Alternative remedies for infertility, being sold for up to £500 a time in Asian communities, have left people in hospital with lead poisoning, writes Roger Dobson.
The powders have been found to contain toxic agents including lead, arsenic, mercury, aluminium and tin. One preparation was discovered to consist of 60 per cent lead. Over the last two years three people have been admitted to hospital in Birmingham with lead poisoning. Doctors believe that many more cases go unreported.
