An opinion poll showed that a clear majority of women in the Irish Republic are in favour of making abortion information available.
The poll shows that 61 per cent agreed with making abortion information available, 14 per cent agreed with it "in certain cases", while only 21 per cent were against. The poll coincides with a Dil debate on a new Bill which would make details on abortion services abroad available through doctors, who would not, however, be permitted to arrange abortions. The Catholic Church and pro-life groups are opposed to the legislation, while the largest opposition party, Fanna Fil, is threatening to vote against it.
