Jimmy Young wins radio award

Jimmy Young, the veteran radio presenter, was last night honoured with a Gold Award at the Sony Radio Awards in London.

Mr Young, 76, (left) was described by judges as a "broadcasting legend".

Another veteran broadcaster, Alan "Fluff" Freeman, won an award for his Friday Night Rock Show on Virgin Radio, which was named joint winner of the Themed Music Programme category.

Classic FM was named UK station of the year for its "quality, consistency and creativity". The broadcaster of the year was John Inverdale of BBC Radio 5 Live.
