Liquor death toll reaches 113
ANOTHER 27 people died yesterday in a Bangladeshi town after drinking contaminated liquor, raising the death toll since Friday to 113.
They drank from a batch of cheap whisky that had been laced with methyl alcohol to raise its potency. The alcohol was sold to an estimated 200 people Thursday night in Narsingdi town, 25 miles east of Dhaka, the capital.
"Those who will survive are likely to go blind or suffer kidney damage," said Ahsan Kabir, a doctor at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
