London's Tower Bridge opens glass walkway

The iconic city monument celebrates its 120th birthday this year

Visitors to London’s Tower Bridge can now experience a unique birds-eye view of the iconic landmark – through a glass walkway unveiled today.

Soaring 138ft (42 meters) above the structure, the £1m glass viewing panel allows tourists to see directly along the famous bridge’s walkway, giving visitors an unusual perspective on the opening and closing of Tower Bridge.

One of London’s most famous landmarks, the Bridge celebrates its 120th birthday this year.

Although only 11 metres long, the West Walkway will soon be supplemented by the opening of the East Walkway next month.

Christopher Earlie, the business and marketing manager from the bridge, said to the BBC: "The opening of Tower Bridge marked the dawn of a legendary feat of engineering creating what is considered by many as the most famous bridge in the world.

"For the first time ever, visitors will be able to experience a never-seen-before viewpoint of London - the Thames, road and pedestrian life, all moving at pace 42 metres below."
