A 32-year-old man was charged in a Dublin court last night with conspiracy to murder crime journalist Veronica Guerin last June.

Paul Ward, of Crumlin, Dublin, was remanded in custody by a special sitting of the Irish District Court. He is the first person to be accused in connection with the murder of the journalist, who was shot dead at the wheel of her car in Dublin. Ward was charged with conspiracy to murder, and with harbouring persons known to have murdered Ms Guerin. He will appear in court again next Thursday. Peter Victor
