A MEMORIAL service for Linda McCartney is to be held in London next month. An informal candlelit tribute by animal welfare groups will take place at the same time.

Sir Paul McCartney announced last night that the memorial service for his wife, who died of cancer, will be held at St Martin-in-the-Fields church on Trafalgar Square at 8.30pm on 8 June.

Today Sir Paul and his family have placed a message in The Independent and two other papers worldwide thanking people who have sent condolences following his wife's death.
