The Greek islands, Portugal and the wider eurozone are disparaged in a new television advertisement promoting domestic tourism.
The 90-second ad, which will be shown this evening, features celebrities such as Stephen Fry and Julie Walters. They compare Corfu, Crete and the Algarve unfavourably against Britain's repertoire of attractions. But Abta, the trade association focused mainly on overseas travel, attacked the Government-funded campaign as "a misguided use of public funds".
The ad ends with the words: "No passports, no jabs, no visas, no euros – no wonder holidays at home are so great."
