I was informed that this Shelter commercial is the first time Radiohead have allowed one of their tracks to appear in an ad. Then I discovered that they also provide the soundtrack for the National Coalition for the Homeless ads in America.
No matter, at least the band has a consistent message with its advertising associations. And anyway, everything else about Leo Burnett's Shelter ad is also worthy of applause.
We see a cityscape with houses built of giant cards slowly crumbling and blowing away. It's powerful through being calmly understated and mesmeric: a persuasively chilling call-to-action.
