On 21 September, The Independent is to go (RED) for the second time, with a special edition of the paper, guest-designed by Giorgio Armani.

This ground-breaking project is the latest stage in The Independent's partnership with the (PRODUCT) RED initiative, which was set up in conjunction with the UN-affiliated Global Fund to help those affected by HIV/Aids in Africa.

It follows the huge success of the previous (RED) edition last May, when Bono spent a day in the editor's chair. Half of all revenues from that issue of the paper - which sold an additional 70,000 copies - were donated to the (RED) campaign. The Independent will also be contributing to (RED) from revenues generated by the Armani edition.

The Armani-designed (RED) issue of The Independent will include articles from a host of public figures. Those whose involvement has been confirmed include: George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Andriy Shevchenko, Ashley Judd and Beyoncé Knowles.

In addition, the features section, Extra, will become a 36-page magazine for the day - and as a bonus, every copy will include a commemorative poster, personally designed by Giorgio Armani.

Simon Kelner, editor-in-chief of The Independent, said: "Giorgio Armani will bring his own, highly distinctive view of the world, and his unique creative vision to the pages of the newspaper, and there promise to be some spectacular visual treats."
